Pastoralist representatives at the gathering from Hamar, Gujji and Banna groups

The Horn of Africa Pastoralist Gathering was held in July 2006. Pastoralist representatives came from all the countries of the Horn. They were joined by a few pastoralists from West Africa and India as well as government officials and represntatives of international organisations. The gathering lasted eight days during which time delegates debated hot issues such as land, conflict, markets etc. Musicians also attended and entertained the delegates during the evenings. The event was hosted by the Borana, Gabra and Gujji pastoralists in Ethiopia's Oromia Regional State and took place near the village of Qarsaa Dembii in Borana Zone.
